Leaving A Mark! - Wanjiru Kyalo, 42 Yrs. Machakos - Kenya | Ep 15.

What inspired you to pursue this journey, and how did you overcome initial challenges? I chair a weekly 2 hour meeting where binding decisions have to be made and the committee is majorly composed of men. In an effort to be heard, I would shout and have heated arguments which ended up extending the meeting by more than 1 hour with hardly a single decision on the Agenda being made.

This really stressed me coupled with the fact that I was always irritable as my 6 month old baby who had health issues was hardly sleeping for 2/24 hours.

I had to learn how to delegate, create work life balance and effectively manage the meetings without shouting or begging to be heard.

Please share a significant moment or decision that played a significant role in your success? I prayed about it and coincidentally learned that a former schoolmate was holding "Personal Branding" coaching classes so I enrolled.

Initially, I took the sessions casually but as we progressed, I realised that the practical application of the sessions was working for me. I am forever grateful to Coach Sonia for the valuable lessons I learnt from the 2 month program. I was finally able to show up authentically and confidently which reflected in a balanced me.

How do you navigate work-life balance and maintain your well-being amidst the success? I stopped taking work home or working while on leave. I strive to focus on my job during working hours so that I complete work before going home and I also delegate more to my team.

While at home, I concentrate on my family and also create time for myself. One of the take home from the coaching program was creating boundaries and power of self love.

What advice would you give to aspiring women on a similar journey or who dream of the same kind of success?

  • Don't limit yourself
  • Keep trying
  • Keep praying
  • Seek professional help if necessary.
As women, let's not beat ourselves so much but keep improving ourselves as we have immense potential that just needs a small push to be unleashed.

In the face of setbacks, how do you stay resilient and continue to thrive in your journey? I take a deep breath, pray then review the root cause of the setback thereafter look for solutions. I also take each day at a time and take daily stock of what went well and what didn't with a promise to compete only with myself!
