Paying It Forward - Liz Ndinda, 42 Yrs. Kigali - Rwanda | Ep 5.

What inspired you to pursue this journey, and how did you overcome initial challenges? The fact that this is exactly what happened to me is my inspiration. Someone saw the potential I had and invested in my vision and education; The person provided the means to scholarship support and the mindset required to succeed as a scholar. I am inspired by the fact that there is nothing more empowering to a woman than quality education coupled with compassionate support.

Please share a significant moment or decision that played a significant role in your success? The decision by the late June Zwagger of Oserian flowers to pay for my high school and university education is the most significant moment in my journey.

The decision by my then Head Mistress Mrs. Nancy Wakonyo Gatheru of Oserian Primary School to hold me up, to instil the belief that I could live my vision, saw it clearly enough and I worked hard enough at it, set me up to my current successful journey of paying it forward. Doing exactly the same thing that June and Nancy did to any promising and disciplined student I meet in my classes as a lecturer and coach.

How do you navigate work-life balance and maintain your well-being amidst the success? The success is not known to many people except the beneficiaries. It doesn't get into my head. There are times when financial and time choices meant that I wasn't there for my family. I come back to this; It can look like a big cost now, the creator will provide the means for what needs to be done.

What advice would you give to aspiring women on a similar journey or who dream of the same kind of success? I would advise educators to notice those in need, to be compassionate, to seek out opportunities and to support the next generation. Little help always goes a long way.

In the face of setbacks, how do you stay resilient and continue to thrive in your journey? I take each set back as it comes. I sometimes pause support when it appears as if the objective is not understood or the person is getting derailed.

I also withdraw when I sense that I am getting burn out. It is always uplifting when any of the people being supported completes their studies. That’s what keeps me going. The knowledge that, the degree will end and it will be worth it in the end.

  2. I agree with the statement she mentioned, "little help goes a long way". Liz is one of the compassionate creatures I have ever met. I could not have finalized my college courses if she wasn't there for me. I really appreciate meeting her, a mentor who pushes others to go beyond their unknown limits.
